Delhi High Court on Wednesday disposed of the petition in which an FIR was sought to be registered against former Congress President and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi. There was a demand to register a case against Rahul for revealing the identity of a rape victim. The court disposed of the petition after reactions from Congress leaders, Delhi Police, and social media platforms.  

Revealing the identity of a rape victim is a punishable offense under Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code. In this case, there is a provision for punishment of up to two years and a fine for the culprit. Delhi Police told the High Court that an FIR has been registered in the case of Rahul revealing the identity of the rape victim through a social media post in 2021 and an investigation is going on.  

The lawyer appearing for Rahul Gandhi told the bench of Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet PS Arora that he (Congress leader) has deleted his tweet, in which the identity of the Dalit girl who was allegedly raped and murdered was revealed. Had happened. The lawyer of social media platform X confirmed that Rahul Gandhi himself has deleted his tweet.

The court was hearing a 2021 petition that was filed on behalf of social activist Makrand Suresh Mhadlekar. He had demanded from the court that by sharing the photograph of the parents, the identity of the rape victim should be revealed and hence an FIR should be registered against Rahul Gandhi. Considering the arguments of all the parties, the High Court said that the prayers made in the petition were satisfied and the petition was disposed of.
