RJD has claimed that the party's demand to give Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur is decades old. In view of the demand of RJD and the results of the caste-based census conducted in Bihar, the Central Government has decided to give Bharat Ratna to Karpoori Thakur under political pressure.
It is noteworthy that on the basis of caste census data, the Nitish government passed a bill to increase the scope of reservation in the winter session of October 2023. Under this, the caste reservation limit in the state has been increased from 50 to 65 percent. Apart from this, a 10 percent reservation is being given separately to the EWS category. In this way, the reservation limit in the state has become 75 percent.

In the meeting of the Nitish cabinet held on November 22, 2023, a proposal was passed to include the law of 75 percent reservation in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution. This proposal was sent to the Central Government. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav, and other ministers of the Grand Alliance government demanded the Central Government to implement this proposal.
